Mahatma Gandhi now watches over Mumbai’s famous Churchgate station

share article

You can spot a larger than life-sized portrait of Mahatma Gandhi on one of Mumbai’s busiest train stations. Brazilian street artist Eduardo Kobra, who has created murals of famous people like Abraham Lincoln and Alfred Nobel in landmarks around the world, has come to paint the iconic figure at Mumbai’s Churchgate station.

“It’s a privilege to be in India, with visibility in a city like Mumbai. Considering the location of the station, which is majorly attended by common people, I wanted to paint Gandhi as an example of humanity and love that people recognize,” says Eduardo.

St+art India, along with Asian Paints and the Western Railway in Mumbai brought the international street artist to India, to bring back graffiti and other art forms to the masses. And we’re grateful for India’s own little piece of art, which will make commuting around the busy city a little easier.
