Baldiwala Associates‘ latest project in Mumbai is resplendent with art, geometric patterns and a plethora of textures. While one would assume an amalgamation of those three elements would result in a space best described by the word ‘kitsch’, The Elemental Sky House is just the opposite. It is a seamless composition of juxtaposing materials to create an enviable, luxurious home in the heart of the City of Dreams.
Double-height ceilings and views of the city’s breathtaking skyline from every room are part of what makes this space unconventional, but it is the angular aesthetic and Chevron patterns that truly set the tone. A host of branded furniture, art and accessories have been meticulously curated to reflect contemporary opulence and comfort. Detailing such as the metal work, choice of marble, wood, veneer and leather add depth and grace to the space; the patina-finished copper Poseidon wall panel that features in the dining area is a brilliant use of the material’s various forms to resemble the ocean, while the life-sized ostrich installation is made entirely from GI scrap.
Eclectic furniture by brands from the UAE and India have been integrated throughout the home, and are linked beautifully by the art and accessories acquired from the local markets of Dubai. Bespoke carpeting in the master suite, custom leather work in the guest room and the vibrant reds, oranges and graphic design elements of the kids’ room are some of the other noteworthy elements. However, the highlight of The Elemental Sky House is most definitely the outdoor terraces, where art installations and a water body create the perfect urban oasis—almost begging you to relax.
