Since founding her Paris-based studio in 2000, India Mahdavi is renowned for the breadth of her international projects, spanning architecture, interior design, scenography, furniture, and object design. Of Iranian and Egyptian heritage, Mahdavi often describes herself as “polyglotte and polychrome”. Her multicultural, cosmopolitan background is central to her creative philosophy, giving rise to a cross-cultural art de vivre that has become her signature. Over the years, she has cultivated an ecosystem including her creative studio, her furniture showroom, the ‘petits objets’ boutique, and most recently, two exhibition spaces: the ‘project room’ and the ‘tiny room’. Together, these spaces form a living narrative that reflects the transversality of her practice. Her portfolio includes iconic projects such as the celebrated Sketch restaurant in London, the Piano Nobile at the Villa Medici in Rome, the PoMo Museum in Trondheim, Norway, the Condesa hotel in Mexico City, the Hotel du Cloître in Arles and the scenography for the Pierre Bonnard retrospective at the NGV in Melbourne. India Mahdavi expresses a modern vision of comfort and joy—often with a touch of humour.
