Kulapat Yantrasast, founder and creative director of WHY Architecture, headquartered in Los Angeles, USA, draws on the power of art to reimagine cultural institutions. Originally from Bangkok, Yantrasast received his master’s and post-doctoral degrees in Architecture at the University of Tokyo. By working with Pritzker Prize-winning architect Tadao Ando for several years, Yantrasast led transformative museum and cultural projects across Europe and the United States before establishing his practice in 2004. The firm’s work includes several notable projects, including the Rockefeller Wing at the Metropolitan Museum of Art in New York City and the new renovation project at the Louvre in Paris. Yantrasast is the first architect honoured with Thailand’s Silpathorn Award in 2009, supporting the nation’s oldest arts advocacy organisation. He is also a trustee of the Pulitzer Arts Foundation. He serves on the board of the Isamu Noguchi Museum.
