Born in 1977, Shogo Kawata graduated in Architecture from Kyoto Institute of Technology in 2003. After graduation, he established his own practice Kawata Architects in 2003 and started collaborating with teamLab the same year. In 2009 he established teamLab Architects Inc, a firm that examines cities for the new era through digital technology, art, nature, people and biology. As they seek to transcend all boundaries in our perceptions of the world, they use design to expand the relationship between the self and the environment around. The firm comprises an interdisciplinary group of specialists – artists, programmers, engineers, CG animators, mathematicians, and architects. Its parent firm, teamLab, is an international art collective, whose works are housed in the permanent collections of the Museum of Contemporary Art, Los Angeles; Art Gallery of New South Wales, Sydney; Art Gallery of South Australia, Adelaide; Asian Art Museum, San Francisco; Asia Society Museum, New York; Borusan Contemporary Art Collection, Istanbul; National Gallery of Victoria, Melbourne; and Amos Rex, Helsinki.
