Barber & Osgerby’s Smalto enamel tables for Knoll

London-based industrial design studio, Barber & Osgerby, teamed up with distinguished American designer furniture brand, Knoll, to create Smalto—a series of enamelled steel tables that exude the classic design sensibilities and exceptional craftsmanship that one has become accustomed to associating with the two brands.

‘An exercise in purity and simplicity’ for Edward Barber and Jay Osgerby’s eponymous studio, the tables feature a smooth, glossy surface that is resistant to both water and sunlight, easy to maintain, and ideal for both indoor and outdoor settings. Manufactured in five striking colours—grey-green, blue, dark grey, green and aubergine, the tables’ curved forms and high gloss finishes are a result of the need to keep the enamel from chipping, while also contributing to their refined, contemporary aesthetic.

“Enamelling has a really strong materiality and tactility that cannot be replicated in other finishes. The colours you can achieve through this process have a real depth and vibrancy and the finish is also extremely durable, perfect for a table top,” said Barber and Osgerby.

The collection, that was unveiled at Salone del Mobile 2019, will be available in three sizes (⌀137cm, 240x125cm and 180x125cm) and features large, inset tubular legs with a thick (40mm) table top.
