This dignified apartment by We Design Studio celebrates the Danish cultural concept of “hygge,” the art of creating intimacy and comfortable conviviality that induces a feeling of absolute wellness. The 250-square-metre Worli residence embodies simplicity, warmth, and understated luxury, with an expansive living-dining space on one side and three beautifully curated bedrooms on the other. Pale limestone flooring and recycled Burmese teak furnishings are offset by rich colour accents in the décor, while fluted glass doors ensure an abundance of natural light.

“The studio believes that there is an inherent sensuality in designing and building with restraint, order, and control. We believe in exploring the underlying value of spatial principles in each of our projects; space is the protagonist. With an abiding interest in austerity and simplicity, the studio focuses its research on the fundamental problems of space, proportion, light, and materials,” explain the designers. The apartment’s restrained yet luxurious aesthetic is largely facilitated by a palette of pale grey limestone and recycled old Burma teak, further accentuated by a soft lighting scheme. Flexibility to maximise space and function is a necessity for Mumbai apartments and has been addressed by elements such as moveable walls in the guest room. Clean, bold planes form the core of the design, ensuring that the residence is unabashedly contemporary yet retains a timeless charm.
