‘An organic building for an organic farm’ is the thought behind Yash Farms. Nestled among the foliage that has recently taken over this plot of land, the earthen edifice blends in beautifully with its surroundings. A contemporary design inspired by vernacular elements, it features soulful calming spaces away from the hustle and bustle of the city. The flow of spaces has been planned to incorporate an effortless transition from the outdoors to the interiors.
One is welcomed by a quaint verandah surrounding an open to sky courtyard. This is the heart of the entire structure. It not only provides light and ventilation to the spaces that wrap around it, but also has an aura that cannot be captured in words—it must be experienced. A clear demarcation between public and private spaces of the residence has been achieved by using several semi open areas as buffers.
When it comes to sustainability, it has been looked at both from the materiality approach as well as the incorporation of several built-in, passive solar features that bring down the overall running cost of the structure. Rainwater harvesting, wastewater management, biogas and solar energy are some of the other eco-friendly elements of the farmhouse. The structure’s material composition includes Compressed Stabilized Earth Blocks (CSEB), rammed earth, natural stone and repurposed wood.
Apart from being home to the client, owing to its rustic aesthetic and earthy tones, this space is the ideal backdrop for video and photo shoots as well as corporate team-building workshops and more. The 1.2-acre property is more than just mud, brick and mortar— it serves as an organic environment for collaboration and well-being.
