Inspired by the Sanskrit word “Swagatam” meaning welcome, parallel to the French “Bienvenue”, Villa Swagatam is an international coalition of artistic residencies launched in 2023. Originally established to foster cultural exchanges between France, India and South Asia, the residency has become a globally recognised platform for literature, the arts and crafts. Last year it had 16 residency partners, and this year it is all set to facilitate exchanges between French and Indian creators, forging partnerships with 30 prestigious residencies. This will allow French artists to journey to India and vice versa, thus perpetuating an ongoing network of art and design.

For the first time this year, Villa Swagatam invites Indian applicants for 10 French residencies who are opening up their doors to South Asia from September 2024 onwards. This list of French residencies comprise older, established ones, as well as younger leaders in the world of design. One of these residency programmes has been co-curated by the Mobilier National and Cité de la céramique / Manufacture de Sèvres, two renowned houses created in the 17th century. This one is intended for Indian experts working in the field of contemporary creation, and is slated to take place between October and November this year. Become part of a unique cultural exchange, and nurture Indo-French art at its finest!
