This Mumbai home by Zaki Shaikh’s Parthenon Architects is an illustration of the reticent designer’s immaculate aesthetic style. “Since the clients live in a concrete jungle, the brief was to ensure that the house had nature integrated into the design. Therefore, the whole house has been conceptualised around verdant elements and a glass-enclosed central courtyard. This courtyard acts as an aesthetically pleasing partition between the living and dining spaces while simultaneously ensuring a confluence into one large, integral, and homogenous space,” explained Shaikh when asked about the client brief and initial planning.

The final product is a timelessly elegant home, where the careful consideration of open space and furnished nooks create a pensive balance and serene ambience. This can also be attributed to the use of neutral colours and simplistic yet high-quality furniture, and natural wall texturing. Furthermore, the meticulously conceived lighting scheme ensures that the desired context is unerring. A luxurious material palette of white self-veneer, Satvario marble is offset by striking décor accessories and chandeliers in metal and metallic finishes. This controlled materiality ensures that the house can imbibe nature and the verdant surroundings. “Personally, it is the seamlessness of the spatial experience, despite the numerous areas we have carved out of it, that appeals to me the most,” concludes Shaikh.
