The Ikat House by Aamir Hameeda Design Studio in Hyderabad is a curated mix of traditional Indian art and antiquities with contemporary Italian furniture. “An existing villa in a gated community was completely remodelled from the inside by dismantling the central staircase and moving it towards the west side. The balconies were taken into the interior space, and a lot of walls were shifted around.” The client was a Chennai-based industrialist, and she loved to wear Ikat.

The house is divided into three floors, with the bedrooms spread over them. “We used Ikat as a theme everywhere, from wallpaper to rugs to bed linens.” True to their philosophy of delivering chic, refined interiors with luxurious finishes and occasional bursts of daring colour or modern geometrics, the husband-and-wife duo conceived this space by drawing from the smallest detail. Here, it was the fabric dyeing technique in which warp or weft threads, or both, are tie-dyed before weaving. We noticed this during our various meetings with her and decided to incorporate Ikat into the house.
