The Ergo Collection by Ross Lovegrove for Natuzzi Italia

share article

Revered Welsh designer, Ross Lovegrove debuted his first collection for one of the world’s best known furniture brands—Natuzzi, at Salone del Mobile this year. The bedroom series, titled Ergo, is a celebration of the storied Italian furniture brand’s 60th anniversary, and pays homage to nature, Mother Earth and the unique spirit of its homeland—Apulia.

“We want to celebrate these 60 years using our origins as a starting point to look into the future”, says Pasquale Junior Natuzzi, Creative Director and Stylist of Natuzzi Italia. “Natuzzi has a strong bond with its homeland and its extraordinary resources. This feeling inspires us and encourages us to look at nature with respect and devotion, translating this into organic design and ethical production. We look to Puglia as the most authentic expression of style and thought, articulating the experiences of today and the rhythm and expectations of tomorrow.”

Ergo reflects an all-encompassing love for nature, and is created with responsible, renewable and recyclable materials. The wood is sourced from FSC®-certified plantations. All the  components interlock, so that each piece can be put together with no metal parts. The water-based adhesives used are formaldehyde-free. All of the finishes are natural wax. The only metal used is aluminium, an endlessly recyclable material. Even the textile fibres used for the upholstery are organic – linen, wool and cotton.

From the bed, chaise lounge and pendant lamp, to the chest of drawers, valet and floor lamp; every piece reflects Lovegrove’s signature style of organic, sinuous profiles. With this collection, the award-winning designer has compiled a study on organic design, the relationship between materials and function as well as between the manufactured objects and their ability to respect the world surrounding them.
