After working in post-tsunami construction with the Auroville Earth Institute for the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP), Vinu Daniel returned to Pondicherry to start his own practice, Wallmakers. The studio develops dream-like spaces through innovative construction techniques that are responsive to their contexts and conditions, prioritising working with materials easily available on sites and building with waste. Having received multiple accolades and international recognition for his sustainable and cost-effective architecture, Daniel pivots the conversation from “What should we build?” to “Should we build?” amidst the global climate crisis.
