Sabyasachi Mukherjee is the director general of the century-old Mumbai museum, Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj Vastu Sangrahalaya (CSMVS). He has been credited with transforming the former Prince of Wales Museum into a thriving cultural centre in the city. Mukerjee is also the director of the postgraduate (diploma) programme in Museology and Art Conservation at the CSMVS Institute, University of Mumbai; he was awarded the degree of Doctor “honoris causa” by the University of Edinburgh for his crucial contribution to transforming CSMVS into a dynamic, cultural catalyst. Apart from delivering lectures frequently, he is an active member on several professional committees, including the UK-AHRC (Arts and Humanities Research Council) and the Bizot Group, which comprises illustrious American and European museum directors.
