Dr Ritu Sethi is the founder-trustee of Craft Revival Trust, India, director of the League of Artisans, UK, editor of the Global InCH Journal of Living Heritage, and oversees Asia InCH Encyclopaedia on the heritage arts, textiles, and crafts of India and the wider South Asian region. Sethi’s research interests lie in examining the cultural history of textiles, arts and crafts, their contemporary continuities and interpretations in design, fashion, and the everyday. Her publications include Handmade for the 21st Century: Traditional Indian Textiles (pub: UNESCO), Embroidering Futures – Repurposing the Kantha (pub: India Foundation of the Arts (IFA)); Designers Meet Artisans – A Practical Guide (pub: UNESCO – trans: Spanish and French); Painters, Poets, Performers – The Patuas of Bengal (pub: IFA); among other writings on cultural histories, sustainability and policy. She works on policies and serves on advisory boards in India, Japan, Sri Lanka, the UK, and Argentina. Most recently, she was appointed to the editorial board for UNESCO’s State of the Education Report, focusing on culture and art education.
