Parag Tandel is a visual auto-ethnographer. Through his interdisciplinary artistic practice, he is dedicated to raising issues of loss and identity. This is done by archiving the contemporary conditions and prevailing circumstances of Mumbai’s fisherfolk, through historical, colonial, imperial, and oral narratives. Tandel received his post-graduate diploma in Creative Sculpture from MS University, Baroda, in 2005. Some of his popular solo exhibitions over the years have been: “Achipelagic Archivist” & “Chronicle” at TARQ Mumbai (in 2016 & 2023), and “Pregnant Room 1” & “2” at Pundole Art Gallery, Mumbai (2008 & 2010). In 2019, Tandel co-founded the “Tandel Fund of Archives”, a socially engaged archive and ethnographic pop-up museum that focuses promoting the lives of Mumbai’s Koli tribes (fisherfolk).
