Dr. Mallika Sarabhai is an activist and a celebrated Kuchipudi and Bharatnatyam dancer, performer, and choreographer. Dr Sarabhai, a Padma Bhushan recipient, is also the co-director of Ahmedabad’s Darpana Academy of Performing Arts.In addition to her Ph.D. in organisational behaviour, she holds an MBA from the Indian Institute of Management in Ahmedabad. Dr. Sarabhai has relentlessly advocated for education, human rights, and the empowerment of women and has consistently channelled her work for social change. Shakti: The Power of Women, the first of her influential solo theatrical works, was created in 1989. Since then, Dr. Sarabhai has created countless theatre productions that have raised awareness, highlighted significant issues, and advocated for change. Many of these productions have toured internationally and throughout India. She has been recognised by the World Economic Forum as a cultural leader and global citizen (Recipient of the Crystal Award at Davos, 2009). Dr. Sarabhai has also collaborated closely with UNESCO on the UNESCO Heritage Project, while affirming the Gandhian values of nonviolence, honesty, and truth.
