Called Sarpanch House, this project in Talangpore, Gujarat, by Neogenesis+Studi0261, is designed to be set apart from its rural surroundings while offering privacy to the family. Situated in a small village called Talangpore, this iconic yet introverted abode is designed keeping in mind the profession of the dweller. The context of the house resembles a very rural setting, sharing a common wall with a cowshed, an open pasture on the other side, and old traditional houses opposite it. The head of this family is the Sarpanch (leader) of the village, and he gave us a brief about how the structure should stand out from the surrounding area while maintaining privacy.

Divergence of massing is created through cubes and powder-coated wood, with finished aluminium pipes that act as screens adding an accent to the overall facade without compromising views or ventilation. These masses, which are individually vivid yet co-exist, articulate the function of the house and form a volumetric elevation. The organisation of spaces on the ground floor revolves around the central courtyard, resulting in a hidden entrance on the other side of the living room for the office space on the level above. The elemental, tranquil spiral staircase creates a distinct impression as one enters through the main gate. Contemporary needs and rural context helped frame the colour palette of the house, where earthy tones and exquisite furniture intermingle to create a unique décor.
