Mind E Space by Cloud Studio is a unique 410 sq m residential interior project in New Delhi for a knowledge-sharing platform and artist commune that inspires self-expression. The media room is an informal living room flooded with daylight where the sliding folding doors allow ample fresh air in all the rooms, and large glass windows add to the lighting. The specially made-to-order Mah Jong sofa is the highlight of this area, with a vibrant and colourful composition that makes the space strikingly lively. The modern-themed bar is set in the corner against an exposed brick wall. Specially designed wooden lights run along the ceiling and light up the space beautifully. A hint of abstract art and quirky furniture in the media room create a sense of psychedelic drama, which was a top priority in the design brief. During morning hours, this room acts like a library or informal lounge, whereas during the evening and night hours, the projector screen rolls down, blackout curtains come in place, and the room gets transformed into a music studio or party lounge where friends jam together and enjoy the movie or party nights.
The kitchen and dining area is a singular hall with multiple functions which works as the entry lobby leading to the media room and ashram area. It features an open kitchen and a large monolithic wooden dining table, which serve as the focal points of the space. The skylight floods natural light into the otherwise dark room; also feeds sunlight to the green wall next to the lounge space. The design intent for the ashram was to provide sleeping pods for visitors, keeping in mind their privacy and personal space requirements. It has custom-designed twin-level sleeping pods that were modelled in response to space constraints and visitor needs. Acoustic curtains for privacy, light fixtures for reading or using electronic devices, charging points, and storage shelves are provided within each pod. The dressing table is designed as a large light fixture and also acts as segregation between sleeping and dressing spaces.
The terrace is an extended outdoor space connected through the staircase and acts as a green breather for the residents of the Ashram. It is intended to provide a respite from the hustle and bustle of city life by screening it from its surroundings with vertical greens. It’s a retreat within the dense surroundings that offers the opportunity to spend quality time outdoors. It’s a predominantly green terrace with a yoga and exercise lawn, a herb garden, and a modular prefab pool installed in a corner, surrounded by wooden decking and an open shower. There are designer sun loungers on the deck that offer relaxation after a dip in the pool. A large, overhanging metal pergola is provided to act as a spatial enclosure as well as a means of hanging planters and aerobic equipment for aerobic and strength workouts. There is a private bedroom designed to suit the needs and requirements of the owner. The attached bathroom and bedroom are essentially separated by clear glass, making the volume appear larger and more dramatic.
