This modern, chic, 280-square-metre residence by Gaurav Kharkar & Associates is located in Tardeo, Mumbai, and features a consummate curation of materials, furniture, artwork, and details. “We were approached by a young, enthusiastic couple to design their dream abode with four bedrooms, a lounge room, and living, dining, and kitchen spaces. They had explored several of the residential projects displayed on our website and were confident that we could realise their desired aesthetic. Since the clients wanted a spacious and clutter-free home with a strong personality, we decided on a sophisticated and chic style.

“We loved that the client gave us a free hand at designing their dream house,” explained to the architects when asked about how the project was initiated. “This house flaunts a lot of different textures, metals, other exotic as well as rustic materials, design forms, and colour pops. Every room tells a different story, reflecting a strong sense of individuality and showcasing the personality of the residents,” says the studio. With four bedrooms, each decorated in a distinct colour and material palette, the home still manages to retain a seamless fluidity in its spatial composition. Standout elements in the form of statement furniture pieces, wall finishes, and textures are present in every room.

“In the living room, warm veneer tones contrast with whites and a cement panelled plasma TV wall. On the far end, the dining area reflects an amalgamation of textures, layers, and patterns, where a warm wood-shaped ceiling partly turns on to the adjoining wall and merges seamlessly with the cube form of the dining unit,” they elucidate. When you enter the master bedroom, you are immediately captivated by the stunning copper panelled headboard, which adjoins a private lounge area defined by a stark blue couch. Quirky cushion covers and artwork complete the décor ensemble. For the daughter’s bedroom, we infused a mix of modern décor with a Victorian flair. The focus is on the symmetrical headboard, which flaunts Victorian charm through its grey, ornately designed mouldings on both sides.

“A perspective artwork in the centre beautifully accentuates the space,” the designers explain. The kids’ room has been kept clutter-free, with a foldable bed for extra play space. A predominantly orange colour palette offsets monochromatic shades of grey, black, and white. The feature elements of this room are geometric tiled flooring and quirky artwork. “The parents’ room has been kept simple but significant by employing a neutral colour palette, which never goes out of style. The idea was that the wall panel behind the bed would be understated and pleasing to the eye, blending seamlessly with the overall décor. “To add a touch of opulent elegance, we added a few metal bands within the white-panelled backdrop,” said the studio.
