Engaging with past, present, and future as fuel for creativity, inquisition, and dialogue is Batool Alshaikh, alongside partners Maitham Almubarak and Christian Vennerstrøm Jensen, of the architectural practice, bahraini—danish. Established in 2016 in Bahrain, it is aptly named to reflect historical encounters between Bahrain and Denmark in fields such as archaeology, architecture, and dairy production. The expression of these explorations finds its way into the trio’s objects, built environments, research, writing, and photography. With projects acquired by Qatar Museums, the Victoria and Albert Museum, and the Danish Prime Minister’s Office, as well as being the recipient of the Arab World Institute Design Prize 2025 and finalists at the Design Doha Prize 2024, the practice demonstrates great calibre in both collaborative and independent work. Their book Positive Encounters was recognised as Best Book Work of 2024 by Boghaandvaerk (The Danish Book Crafts Society).
