Kuwajerwala Residence by Architect Naved Designs features an eclectic interior palette that juxtaposes eccentric décor elements and contemporary sensibilities with a muted backdrop. “This snug Mumbai residence belongs to a popular young couple from the entertainment industry—Tina and Hussain Kuwajerwala; and revolves around their convictions and affirmations. The apartment for the enthusiastic duo was designed keeping in mind their prerequisite notions of occasionally turning it into a gathering space, with movable furnishings and minimalist composition,” explained the architects. Wooden panelling and black slate flooring was clad on two surfaces, leaving one side open to connect with nature. This setup further accentuates the outdoor seating arrangement and warm peripheral lights.
Abstract teapots and white seating options are balanced by yellow side tables and an industrial mirror in the central living room, while the abutting patio, with its exposed red brick walls and black slate flooring, forms a quintessential earthy-urban ambience. “The limitations imposed by the lower height of the ceilings were resolved using simple light fixtures.” “Further, to avoid visual clutter, the TV console neatly conceals all its services within the wall,” said the studio. Speaking enthusiastically about the patio, the architects quoted, “The red brick patio is the space to die for! It is meant to be an extension of the living space, with its exposed wall starting directly from the living area. This wall gives the space timeless texture, warmth, and a tactile, raw aesthetic.”
The dining room features sleek black chairs and an alluring chandelier offset by a large window. A wide doorway leads to a tapering, cornered bar, which has been dynamically designed in natural veneer and mirrors. The highlight of this space is an installation, curated in situ, along the longer wall, which features a parametric pattern of small square mirrors. “The artistic mosaic tiling amidst the black granite platform and frosted mirror surfaces for the overhead storage spaces induces a plush vibe to this utilitarian space,” the designers said of the bold, black kitchen interior. The seraphic master bedroom features a contrast of white furnishings with an industrial black spa area. Black laser-cut Corian panelling, silk curtains, black marble flooring, a high-tech jacuzzi, and a luxurious couch highlight vibrant décor elements.
“An adjoining space to this central expanse is the convertible guest bedroom, with sliding-folding doors that can open up to the living room.” “This area has been intricately designed to double as a guest space and a workspace for the lady of the house.” “It features a soft pastel palette with an attractive white cupboard, a framed bed back, and compelling wooden flooring against a grey backdrop,” they continued. Another unique accessory and feature in the second guest bedroom is a bespoke installation composed of various-sized PVC pipes fused behind maintenance-friendly clear glass. Thoughtful detailing has most certainly resulted in a home that emits a peaceful, serene aura. “The downy cushioned bed adds a distinct character to the neat design concept and resonates with the client’s fondness for white. “A flushed leather-finished wardrobe unit runs all along the wall to culminate in a walk-in wardrobe,” the architects added.
