The recently concluded India Design ID 2017 – the country’s definitive design week – converged the best minds and brands in the fraternity under one roof. Like every year, a venerable lineup of labels and designers presented novel products on display at the various pavilions at NSIC grounds, New Delhi.
We cherry picked an ensemble of designers who showcased their innovative creations that had a lasting impact on us.
1. Anantaya/AKFD
With Ayush Kasliwal , at the helm, the brand has been famed for encouraging local crafts to imagine modern furniture. In keeping with their mission was their booth, replete with beautiful handcrafted products like basket chairs and bar stools. The highlight was the craftswomen who were weaving baskets at their stall.

2. Ashiesh Shah for Cocoon Fine Rugs
Celebrated architect, designer and EDIDA Designer of the Year 2016, Ashiesh Shah displayed his Chand LC carpet range for Cocoon Fine Rugs at the fair. We loved how the functional creations inspired by iconic mid century Le Corbusier’s edifices looked like art pieces for the floor. Include his own setup information?

3. Fabrichaus by Atmosphere
Le French Studio designed a range of versatile furniture for Fabrichaus by Atmosphere with terrazzo from Bharat Floorings that would be apt for any space. The best part is the gorgeous products can be used for indoor as well as outdoor use. The furniture pieces were upholstered in fabric from the brand.

4. Rooshad Shroff for Atmosphere
It came as no surprise that renowned architect, designer and three-time EDIDA winner Rooshad Shroff designed a range of innovative lights yet again. This time, the creative envisioned Limited Edison collection of illuminators for brand Atmosphere, where he has ingeniously upholstered sources of light in textiles from the brand.

5. Casa Pop
The Delhi based brand by Raseel Gujral Ansal presented an eclectic mix of products and accessories at their vibrant booth. We lost our heart to the high back red chair upholstered with a floral bright crimson fabric.

6. Design Clinic India
This Delhi based multi-disciplinary design studio founded by Parth Parikh realises furniture, lights and interiors by drawing inspiration from all things India. Giving a nod to the country’s local flower markets was their Phool Mandi collection at India Design ID. We were absolutely smitten by The Phulwari, a folding day bed cum seating accented with a veil of marigolds made of fabrics.

7. JJ Valaya
At his booth, the couturier put up images of architectural marvels from Jodhpur, Chandigarh and Dufftown, the cities that also happened to shape his journey. These images, part of his coffee table book The Soul in the Space – A Journey of Architectural Influences unveiled at the fair, transported us to these spectacular places, giving us a retrospective of his inspiring design journey.

8. Karan Desai Home
Karan Desai of his eponymous multi-disciplinary firm showcased some of his exquisite product ranges at the fair. This lighting installation boasting black flowers urged visitors to stop and gaze. He also had daily use items in concrete, like a USB port and a shaving brush

9. Klove
EDIDA India Designers of the Year 2015 Gautam Seth and Prateek Jain drew inspiration from the Nordic landscapes and folklores for their latest artistic explorations. We loved the Valkyrie lighting installation that borrows from the mythological horse warrior depicting a stallion’s face and the mane crafted in hand blown glass.

10. Nature Morte Gallery
The contemporary art gallery displayed attractive artworks by Thukral and Tagra that beautifully depicted decor aspirations of the middle class to fit into the Western world along with furniture from Viya Home. The Chocolat Boys artworks illustrating Hershey’s bottles with pictures of boys painted onto them caught our attention.

11. Odyssey
The brand showcased some of their latest collections at India Design ID 2017. Which included embossed and engraved wall coverings inspired by the veins on foliage.

12. PlayClan
The whimsical brand famed for fusing graphics with craft to narrate visual novellas wowed us with some of the most vibrant pieces at the fair. We greatly admired The Rabari and Rabaran triptych, depicting traditional Rajasthani folks with a graphic twist

13. PortsideCafe
The brand by Bobby Aggarwal presented their Cement collection of coffee tables, desks, chest of drawers and accessories at their fair. We loved how the beautiful muted palette pieces were accentuated with metallic accents.

14. Sogani by Vibhor Sogani
The brand helmed by the creative of the same name showcased a slew of their latest pieces at the fair. Some of the pieces that caught our attention Banyan table, Cresent Swing, Framed Tulips, Iceberg Table, Twilight among many more products.

15. Sahil Sarthak Design Co
The creative duo Sahil Bagga and Sarthak Sengupta displayed their latest lighting collection inspired from geometric forms along with other furniture pieces at the fair. Our favorite pieces were the lamps that borrow their shape from traditional steel utensils with handcut design. They also launched their new collection of lights along with showcasing their Kalpataru creation which was commissioned by the V&A Museum, London.

16. Scarlet Splendour
The Hyderabad based marque brought in some of their best pieces designed by Italian design maestro Matteo Cibic. The pieces were as vibrant as their booth. The eye-catcher was their Mandala collection by Matteo launched at India Design ID. On display were also pieces by Dario Contessato and Mirco Colussi, plus their Karesansui rugs.

17. The Pure Concept
The brand’s outdoor installation highlighted each of the four ranges that The Pure Concept launched at India Design ID. At their booth, the Essentials line definitely stood out for us.

18. The Purple Turtles
The brand showcased their Wabi Sabi collection of lights. We loved how the lamps displayed the austerity of exposed cement without the burden of weight and permanence – the pieces concreted our passion for raw charm.

The brand spearheaded by Spandana Gopal exhibited at India Design ID for the first time and we dare say they didn’t fail to impress us with their latest cushions and tableware collections.

21. Claymen by Aman Khanna
Aman Khanna displayed his Acute, Obtuse, Straight and Right collection at the fair, which reflected minimal, understated sophistication. The line comprising of functional objects as well as sculptural pieces are handmade with ceramic.
