This luxurious office at One BKC by Sanjyt Syngh is a true testament to his unmatched contemporary-global aesthetic. This exquisite 1490-square-metre office is located in one of the premier high-rises in Bandra Kurla Complex, close to Mumbai’s west coast. The brief was to create a non-typical yet luxurious corporate office where the suite would have its own identity and a self-contained space to host visitors. The challenge was to combine four large units into one cohesive space with two separate entry points, one for the management and one for the staff and visitors. Some of it is quirky, others are rebellious, and the rest is inspired by the nature of business.

Conceived as a single volumetric form, intricate details like bas-relief made for an interesting proposition. We decided to treat each suite with a different colour accent. We also decided to use the three-sided glazing of the structure to our advantage. Natural light plays a very important role in this space. We added to the drama by showcasing gigantic artworks and sculptures and using coloured glass for partition walls. This space breaks the norms of a conventional Indian office, and if described in one simple word, it would be “curated.” The objective was to create a truly global standard for workspace design.

While the walls serve as the perfect backdrop for antiquities and objects collected from all over the world, textiles, and other décor accessories, the essence of the space primarily comes from the art. We don’t like the word “challenges.” We prefer to call it “making the best out of a given space.” In this case, we tried to maximise the view from every angle possible. To facilitate this, we used specific mechanisms, like one where the television disappears into the ceiling—out of sight when not in use. This was a turnkey project for us, where we designed, sourced, and selected every inch of this space from our local partners and European vendors. The aim was to give the impression that this office leaves a lasting impression of sophistication, functionality, style, and beauty.
