Shunyo Apartment by The Purple Ink Studio is a meticulously composed residence that juxtaposes simplicity with an esoteric spatial experience. The residents’ passion outweighs the functional necessities in the design intent, creating a surreal ambience. With a pure colour palette of black interspersed with undertones of grey, the “multifaceted living pod” is dominated by a cast-in-situ concrete table positioned to obscure the lines between cooking, dining, and entertainment spaces.

As the 100-square-meter Bangalore-based apartment explores an amalgamation of two distinct spatial experiences (simplicity with the esoteric), the continuation of black hues into the private bedroom area facilitates a seamless transition. Select furnishings and artworks, as well as an expertly administered chiaroscuro technique (balancing natural light with dark surfaces), result in an avant-garde, unrestricted space. While the rawness of the concrete slab forms the main canvas, the polished concrete floor adds a partially refined character to the apartment. “Shunyo” aims to capture this energy in its esoteric approach, with a succession of narratives coming together as a spatial experience where all the spaces take on multiple roles.
